What makes a site holy or sacred?
Sites are consecrated to create a reverence and generate awe, making it easier for us to connect with a Higher Power. The energies are therefore different and rarely beneficial for us to live with 24/7.
The dictionary says: Consecration: The blessing, sanctification or declaring of something sacred; to dedicate a building, place, or an area for religious purposes.
Consecrated ground does not have to be Christian in origin.
Mother Earth was sacred to our Pagan ancestors. Tress were hallowed, especially the majestic Oak. In Scotland there was the ‘Clootie Tree’, often sited beside a holy well, where people would tie small pieces of cloth, wool or items of clothing asking for healing, granting a wish etc.
None of us really know what has occurred or been built on the ground on which our home is built. Short term maybe, but not what was there a thousand years ago, or even several hundred, unless marked on a map or through hearsay.
Considered Holy or Sacred
Springs were also revered, and many had healing powers attributed to them. Certain hills and valleys were considered sacred, as were glades in forests, where secret ceremonies would take place.
Stone circles, henges, standing stones should be considered as consecrated sites.
Over the centuries many of the Pagan worship sites have been demolished, some ploughed under and some just forgotten. However, the ground will still, be consecrated. The same should be said for converted churches, chapels or monastic buildings. The energy patterns will still be there even after many years have passed and will need to be de-consecrated.
What We Do
This is land that has been used for worship, it comes in many shapes and sizes.
Hollowed or blessed land has been charged to a high level, helping us to connect with the Divine. The energies there will not be conducive for everyday living.
The land or building needs to be deconsecrated, allowing the energies to revert to normal living levels.
N.B. This should not be looked at as a replacement for, but complementary to, a visit to your GP should you have any health concerns or issues whatsoever.
